A critical piece of pattern diagnosis, your practitioner will take pulses on the radial artery (both left and right) in three positions and three depths. These pulse positions are associated with all of your organ systems. Dr. Maegan will assess your energetic health, where there is stagnation or deficiency, and what meridians and organ systems to focus on by the pulse characteristics. This will generally take place before needles are placed and are re-checked at most appointments, as it is always in flux.
The tongue will be checked at the beginning of most appointments. It is a microcosm or mirror of the health of the body and mind. Areas of the tongue correspond to certain organ systems. The color of the tongue body, the coating of the tongue, and characteristics like cracking or peeling, tell the practitioner what the patient’s treatment needs are to create harmony and encourage healing.
